Chartier Sustainability Group provided consulting and energy auditing services for this gut renovation of a 120 year old single family townhouse. To make the building airtight, high efficiency windows and closed cell spray foam were installed. To lower operating costs, low-flow plumbing fixtures such as dual flush toilets were installed, along with high efficiency lighting, HVAC and domestic hot water equipment, including a 95% efficiency condensing boiler system. To improve air quality, energy recovery ventilators were installed. The new house was even designed to accommodate the future installation of a solar array to produce electricity and hot water. The end result was a 70% reduction in gas consumption and 38% reduction in electricity consumption, an average monthly gas & electric bill of only $80 year round, and a healthier, more comfortable home. |

Chartier Sustainability Group acted as engineer of record and sustainability consultant, providing full mechanical, electrical & plumbing design and consulting services, for this 7,000 sf landmarked single family residence in Prospect Park, built in 1880. The project included a complete upgrade and modernization of the plumbing and electrical systems; replacement of the 50+ year old oil-fired steam boiler with a gas-fired condensing boiler; and installation of a heat pump system to provide year round cooling and high efficiency heating during mild weather. The work took place without disturbing the original millwork and historical landmark features. |
